Established in 1999 the Bathurst Regional Youth Council, formerly the Bathurst City Youth Council, consists of approximately 24 young people aged between 12 and 24 who wish to make a difference to their community.
The Bathurst Regional Youth Council (BRYC) has worked towards making Bathurst a better place for young people to live since 1999. BRYC identifies and aims to address many local issues for young people, including environmental projects, entertainment options, drug and alcohol issues, recreation and multiculturalism.
In 2010, BRYC completed a number of projects; including the ongoing development and upkeep of the Youth Council website, the 'Masquerade Madness' Dance Party, the 'Live it Now' Youth Week event, the Indent Ten Year Tour with Urthboy and a short film named "Out of It", addressing key youth issues in the region. Members of the 2010 Youth Council also attended important conferences such as the YAPA 'Shift This' youth conference, and the CENTROC summit.
Council encourages young people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and education levels to take part in BRYC to try to ensure that the group is representative of the broader community. Participating in BRYC can develop confidence, leadership, public speaking ability and teamwork skills in young people, as well as developing a sense of community pride and belonging.
Nominations are called for in February of each year.
In 2011 the Youth Council is working on a number of projects including the annual Youth Council Dance Party, as well as a 24 Hour Film Competition to happen later in the year. Watch the 'Whats On' section of this website for details!!
